Student possessions insurance vs. Home insurance

[FONT=&quot]Dear Moneysavers,

My girlfriend and I will be moving into our own flat at the start of the next academic year and I'm wondering whether it's best to get a home insurance policy, or stick with student possessions insurance.

I had a quick play on moneysupermarket and the cheapest quote for household insurance was about (for a couple in a ground floor flat in Chester city centre) £150 for a year.

Student possessions insurance for me (just me) is about £36 for the year through http://www.sisdirect.co.uk/ ......NOT rip-off Endsleigh!!!), covering £4k possessions and a reasonable amount for computer and accessories. If we decided we have a lot of stuff, my partner could take out a policy with £4k cover for about £28. ( I don't think we'd top £4k worth of stuff. I don't buy expensive clothes and don't follow fashion:money: for example.... I haven't spent my entire student loan on DVDs and CDs (No, it's tucked away in a leading ISA and savings account :money: ))
Add those two figures together and it works out at £64 ( - I do languages, not Maths, I hope that's right!)

Am I missing a major advantage of home insurance policies? I suppose once you have a flat screen TV and 1000 DVDs etc etc £8k wouldn't be enough.... but the student policy covers against theft, fire, flooding..... What more do we need?

(For an extra £30ish I can get cover for up to £2000 worth of items [£500 single item limit] which covers "all risks" including off the property (but the special computer cover covers "all risks" for the computer items already) but I probably would never take anything worth that much out in public. (The only reason I have the all risks cover quoted for on the laptop is because that's "standard" for that - even though I have no intention of taking it to Maccy D's to get coffee spilled on :rotfl:(last weeks money dilemma if you missed it!)

Any advice on the subject? Any help welcome!

Happy money saving!
