Help! I decided to have a go at making some handmade bread for the first time ever. Used recipe from this site:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2009/sep/10/bake-your-own-bread
But I didn't read the instructions properly and added the whole sachet of yeast -7g
instead of the tsp recommended.
So it is now sitting in my bowl on the kitchen counter. Is there anything I can do to rescue it? I'm a bit concerned about putting in oven as it is, that's a lot of yeast! I would imagine the taste will be very overpowering as it is anyway.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks0 -

I think you will be ok. The 7g usually equates to a teaspoon. Give it a try and see! Good luck! Home made bread is yummy!0 -
I wouldn't worry about it. Once you've taken a teaspoon of yeast out of a 7g sachet, there's only a little bit left in the sachet. A teaspoon is about 5g.0

I've just come back from ireland, while I was there I watched a programme and they were making bread. The cook/chef only let the dough prove once and then knocked it back and shaped and baked straight away. Has anyone done this? ( It was a yeast dough, not soda bread)Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0

Hi Clampye
Welcome to OSThere is loads of resource here for bread making. From your post I would guess you are making it by hand? Have a read through this thread as there are plenty of ideas and suggestions. You can't go wrong with Delias basic loaf either, and there is a simplified version of that within the thread I linked you to (pretty sure it is from Thriftlady)
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep all the info together. Do report back. Once you make your own, I would doubt you would return to shop bought. Do be warned, it's mandatory to stand over it and eat it hot from the oven with lashings of real butter (even though my mother tells me that's bad for your digestion)
Another great resource is the complete breadmaking collection so do have a browse.
Thanks

ohhhh good question - either twice as much or half - let me check...........
Half the amount of dried to fresh . So dried is twice as strong if my brain is working correctly....
That's great about tesco - they used to give it free appaerntlyI must try fresh yeast. I have only ever used dry.

How exciting!:j
For some reason, people think bread is a terrifying thing to make, but it's really not.

I want to make a loaf or rolls with seame seeds on the top. Do I add these when it has proved for the 2nd time? If so do I just sprinkle on water or egg white?Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0
