Post not for us..keeps coming...

Apologies if this is the wrong thread but really unsure where to post.

We moved into our new build 7 months ago and all fine..for the last couple of weeks we have been recieving post for somone in a different town with the address scribbled out and our address on..we are the only owners.

I have sent it back it has returned..i have sent to the post office it has returned..i have now at last resort opened the letter from today (i know illegal) and it is a £7k debt letter..we are not happy about this coming to our address and do not want it linked in any way.

I have written a letter to the address it has been sent from asking politely for it not to be sent as we have no idea who it is..shall i ring the co of the letter that is opened?..
thankyou.

Definitely ring the debt collection company and tell them what has happened.

Don't worry about getting into trouble - nothing will happen to you.

this has happened to me many times over my past 20 years as a landlord and i have found it is the only way to deal with such mail.

i agree open all mail to them and contact debt firms .. its the only way. i had mail coming to my house for a number of different people (not the last owners but previous tennents from at least 4 years ago) i kept sending letters back 'not known at this address, a didnt take much notice untill ballifs turned up for one of these people!! i now open all their mail i have had letters from several debt agencies and reckon this man must owe about 30 grand!! he has just dissapered even his family send xmas cards to my address!!
