Kwik fit are a complete bunch of cowboys. We took our car in for replacement tyres, they put the wrong size on. Car was pulling all over the place so we took it to a proper garage, and the tyres that had been replaced were 185's, and our car runs on 195s !! Also had a section of the exhaust replaced, and it started blowing the fumes back into the car (not good with a 2 year old and a heavily pregnant woman in the car!) Called the AA out to it, and they told us the section had been put on the wrong way, quick switch and it was fine after. Never again will I use Kwik Fit

I'm also pretty tempted to try some remould tyres- the rally-type slicks from Colway could be pretty sweet on my MR2 I reckon:).

Some of their standard tyres can be had for under £14 excluding delivery, and I can't see how you can go wrong at that price really, especially if you don't do many miles. I've had my car four years and done about 13,000 miles in that time, one of the tyres that was on the car when I got it still has plenty of useable tread left, and the two super grippy Yokohamas I fitted to the front when I got it look barely worn. I suspect my tyres will perish before they wear out.

Several years later cable did snap - AA mechanic replaced with new one - total for parts ~£15, just where do Kwik fit get there prices from?
Kwik-Fit have a very advanced "Customer Appraisal" course that all employees must attend. It teaches them to asses the customer's 'likely technical experitise' on entry to the branch. Component prices are then adjusted on a sliding scale. For example a 23 year old woman who is blonde, (it does matter to them and affects the price) coming into the branch in a Kia saying "Something is wrong with my car" will need a complete new exhaust system including 'cat' new brake linings, drums and pipes and probably a couple of tyres too. She will leave less than an hour later, the best part of a grand poorer, but convinced her car is in 'tip-top' condition.
Same car comes in with a different driver- Mid 30's man with a 'Snap-On' T-shirt, dirty, greasy hands, rolled up copy of AutoTrader in his back pocket. He he drives out after 10 mins after being told "Just a new rubber on the exhaust mounting bracket - that'll be £2.11 plus VAT please". I don't think Kwik-Fit want the gen public to know so please don't tell anyone !

  • ditto. my sentiments exactly.

I won't go near them after they fitted my tyres inside out. And didn't give me my refund of 10% for having car insurance with them, and still haevn't bothered to send out the cheque they promised.

They've been taken over by a French company and Sir Tom Farmer isn't in charge anymore :( which could well be a reason they are slipping...
