Barclaycard DD error - have I done all I should?

Hi all
I was wondering if you could help me please – I'd like to find out if I have done all I should.
Basically, last month I rang Barclaycard to set up a regular payment for £300 (a light bulb moment!), and today I logged onto my current account to check that it had gone through ok, and was a bit shocked to see that Barclaycard had tried to debit £3000 from my a/c.
I rang Barclaycard straight away, and asked them to check their records, and the man on the phone said they had set up a dd for £3000. He said I would have received a letter in the post to confirm this. I assured him I had not, otherwise I would have rung them sooner to correct their error! He changed the amount on the system, and told me that they would have to try to take the money again.
I asked him about the charges that I will inevitably incur from both Barclaycard and my bank, and he told me that I would not be charged by Barclaycard, and that they would pay my bank charge – both of which he said he would not be able to confirm in writing. Hmmm! I did ask that he confirm my DD payment in writing, and I will have to see if this letter turns up!!
I also rang my bank to explain the situation, and they told me that they would still be charging me £25 for going over my agreed overdraft, and that a letter would be sent to me in the next couple of days confirming this. The lady on the phone told me I could send a copy of this letter to Barclaycard to request they refund me directly for this charge.
I have a few questions – have I done all that I should? Will this effect my credit record as this month’s payment won’t be made on time now? And if so, can it be taken off as this was Barclaycard’s error?
Any advice on this would be great. Thanks.

You should be able to contest any mark on your credit file with Barclays. If they have made the error then they should correct it.
If Barclays wont send you anything in writing - ensure you note the name of the operator, time and date of calls.
Hope it all gets sorted for you.0 -
(Hello again!) Did you check with BC whether they now expect you to make a (smaller) payment for this month as the original amount was returned?.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0

Yes, they said they would now debit the correct amount from my account.0

Right, bit of an update for you (thanks to those who have given me advice so far).
I didn't ever receive any confirmation letters from Barclaycard, so sent a reminder for them in a letter which also requested they pay the £25 bank charge I incurred because of the incorrect dd they set up.
I checked my bank account online this morning and the Barclaycard direct debit has disappeared off the system, so I rang them to see why this is. It now turns out that Barclaycard didn't correct the direct debit from £3000 to £300, but just cancelled it all together!!!!
Can they do this without my permission? I did not mention cancelling it in my phone call to them, and neither did the person I spoke to at Barclaycard - he told me he had corrected the amount to £300.
He also told me that he would arrange for £300 to be debited from my bank account to cover the April payment. This has not happened. I am at my wits end with these people!
What is my next step - I am currently writing them another letter - I am mentioning TCF to them, and I also want them to respond pretty sharpish as I am very worried.
I want to escalate this matter - should I at this point be mentioning the Financial Ombudsman, and if so, how long should I give them to resolve the matter?
Should I give them a call? I don't trust them to correct this matter over the phone as they don't seem to do what they tell you they have done. I've not brought my card or statement with me to work today - can I ring them without being able to give them my account number?
Any help would be greatly appreciated - sorry if my post is emotional - I am not in a happy place at the moment!!0
