SIMPLE QUESTION for a Mobile Phone Techie

I was wondering - if my mate bought a SIM-FREE mobile phone in the USA and brought it to me in the UK. Would it work?
Just to be more specific, i want to buy a Nokia N82 ($500). My boss will happily bring this back for me when he visits the states next month.
Now when you buy a SIM-FREE mobile in the UK, that generally means the phone can accept a SIM from any network. Does the same apply to a phone from the USA?
Any help on this or any other potential hiccups that i have missed would be nice to know too.
Maybe it still requires an unlock code when it gets to UK?
Maybe an Unlock code for the Nokia N82 Black doesnt exist?
FYI, the Nokia N82 Titanium is out in UK but the black version isn't, which is the one i want. I dont think anything more than the colour is different.
After typing the above, it looks like their is no fricken retailer who has this phone in stock!

If it's fully SIM free and unlocked, I don't see any reason why not, as long as it is multi-band (which all decent modern phones are).
Unless someone else knows if their are additional country locks in place...0 -
Had a quick check and the N82 looks like it's a 3G / GSM phone so provided it is genuinely unlocked / sim free then all should be fine.Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0
