Alternative to tiling splashback area.

Options
I have just had a new kitchen installed and am struggling to find tiles I like. Or more specifically I am having trouble finding tiles I like that I can afford. :D I don't like stainless steel splashbacks and was wonderng if there are any nice alternatives.

Am thinking that I could get the really nice really expensive tiles i like to tile the cooker to hood area, and do the worktop to wall units in something different?

Anyone have any interesting suggestions?

Have a look at this site as a possible
    http://www.stickandgo.com/
I'm contemplating having these myself........seems to work out very reasonable price and a lot easier to put on. I did e mail them and they were going to send me a sample to see what I thought but so far they haven't.
But its worth a look anyway

What can you afford? I got those glass mosaic tiles that sort of glisten from a company www.mosaictraderuk.co.uk the single colours per square metre start at £13.30 - quite affordable and easy to put up as you don't need to cut out tricky shapes and waste tiles...
  • Great suggestions, thanks.

What an annoying woman on the stickandgo website though, she'd be enough to put you off! They look like mini vinyl floortiles for walls. Great idea but I think we're looking for a slightly better finish.

Now the mosaics..... now you're talking! Will give that website a good browse later on when I have more time, but seems very reasonable. £13.30 per square meter is certainly affordable, better than the £75 per square meter I was looking at anyway.

Would be keen to hear if there are other alternatives though...... I fancy something a bit different. Our kitchen is quite funky (although not expensive) so I need to finish it off with something, err funky but not expensive lol.

    Thanks again for the suggestions.

I got some of the colour mix ones for my bathroom from that mosaic site... can't fault them you can pay by Paypal too (I found them on Ebay but bought from them direct) some of their luxury colour mixes have goldy bits through for £38 a square metre, a bit more than I would like to pay for my kitchen when I do it but with a nice granite effect worktop I reckon it'd look top. Plus you could do behind the cooker in a posh mix, and the rest in a solid colour from that mix for economy. I am thrilled to bits with my bathroom it looks like it's from a "boutique" hotel lol !! they will send you tile samples out too...

if you want funky then how about getting Ann McKevitt's book out of the library I think it's called Style on a Shoestring and I seem to remember she used wrapping paper behind perspex sheeting and then siliconed the edges.. she used to be on a prog called "Home Front" in the 90's... some of her ideas are a bit studenty but some of them ROCK.

Fabby suggestion. Re the book, I actually have that book! Somewhere? Haven't unpacked the books since we moved in 3 months ago as we are busy renovating at the moment. Used to love Home Front. Agree that some of her ideas were a bit dodgy, but some of them were fab.

    Thanks again.
