anyone used tile paint?

Options
Bathroom wall is part tiled. We cant find matching tiles and it would be a big job to remove old tiles and redo the lot, so we thought to buy similar tiles and then paint the lot with Ronseal tile paint. It look good on the pictures and Ronseal are famous for "doing what it says on the tin", but is it?

Did I not answer a question about tile paint the other day.

I have used the international paints one. It needed a primer first. It stunk to high heaven as it is oil based. Made me feel very sick.

It looks ok but would only use it as a stop gap to get you by for a few years until you re-decorated. As it will flake ours did after about 4 years.

we used the tile paint, in a Restaurant we just purchased. The tiles in the toilets were brown, and we wanted them to be white.

We used it, as all the money went into acquiring the place, so we had to wait a while before refurbishing the toilets.

the tile paint is quite hard to put on, i mean you have to do it slowly, otherwise you'll get drips all over the place.
tbh, our outcome looks rubbish, and it might of been better staying brown, but too late, once you've started, you have to finish.

we have used tile paint too and it is very smelly and difficult to apply but looks ok but it is just being used as a stop gap. I have heard it is better to tile over tiles so maybe you should buy some cheap tiles to fill in gaps then tile over the whole lot with the tiles you want. Not sure how cost effective this is or if you even want a new look?

I painted some ugly splashback tiles in my kitchen in a previous home - I was very pleased with the result, despite a few drips here and there which appeared in my haste to get the job done. I used International brand paint.

If you're thinking of painting a tiled wall which water from the shower would hit then perhaps this isn't the best way to go - my kitchen splashback was fine however it did flake a bit behind the sink, so goodness knows what a shower area would look like.

I've been looking into tiles recently for my hall to match my kitchen - the guy who sells them said that it'd be likely that the colour will be a bit different, and that tiles should really be purchased in one batch. Even if you do happen to find the exact same tiles then there might still be a variation in the shade (even if they are white!) and it won't look very nice.

What about tiling over the old tiles with plain white ones, with a few patterned inserts to jazz it up? As suggested above you could just tile on top of what is already there.

Would it be possible to just paint the new tiles and then use some of the tile transfers to cover the difference?

I used International tile paint in my bathroom and the results were pretty good. When the paint was dry I did that thing where you go over them with clear car wax. It makes them easier to clean and really shiny too.

I've used tile paint too to tidy up my 'orrible bathroom when I wanted to sell my flat. I applied a primer first....it might have been the International one...can't remember. I used a small gloss roller to apply it and found it really easy.
