Transferring Emails...

Is there any way of transferring OE emails/address book to another PC using a USB pen?

Thanks

    Yes you can
In OE Go into Tools> Address Book, and the Address Book Main Identity will open. Go File> Export, and select Address Book (WAB) navigate to the location of your USB pen, give the file a name, and click save.
To import on other computer, go the same route, but substitute Import for Export.
For messages: In OE.> Tools> Options> Maintenance> click on Store Folder note its location
Now save that folder in your pen drive and import it, or drag and drop it, from the pendrive to OE in your 2nd computer.

Thanks ever so much. I have managed to transfer my address book, but having trouble with transfering emails. I had them set up in folders dedicated to the email received, but having trouble importing them from my USB pen.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Check to see if the folder is marked read only, which it may have defaulted to. Either change its status on the USB pen drive, or copy the folder to somewhere convenient on your (new computer) hard drive, unmark the folder from read only, and then import using OE as previously, but navigate to this folder on your hard drive. OE will not open/read from read only folders.

Make sure that OE is not running.

For the email messages - do a search for .dbx files and copy these to your pen drive. ( Just the custom made ones - not the inbox, trash, sent, etc )

On the other PC - copy them to the relevant folder ( usually something like:- <Drive>:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{long number}\Microsoft\Outlook Express )

Be carefull not to overwrite any existing names - if there is a conflict, try renaming the folder(s) before you copy them and ensure all the emails are in folders ( i.e. not left in the inbox )

    Hope this helps.

Navigate to the file(s) in Explorer. Right click the file then click properties in the drop menu that appears. The box that opens will have a number of tabs (depending on OS). At the bottom of the General tab is Attributes, where you will find two click boxes, one being Read only. If that is ticked, just untick it.
