Disk Drive help needed please

in Techie Stuff
im trying to open up a CD for my new mobile phone on my laptop, but its not opening. When i click on disk drive E properties, it tells me to insert a disc. The disk is already in, but its just not being recognised. It was the same yesterday with another disc. They are genuine CD roms and not copies. Can anyone please help? :confused:

    either your cd lense has become too dirty to allow reading any CDs, or the drive has become faulty.

    Borrow a CD lens cleaner from a friend (they can cost a fair few quid) and run that in the first instance.

    You should be able to download the software from the phone website in the meantime.

    Or, it could be a dead CD. Can you read other CDs?

    You could always download the software from the phone manufacturers website.

    I just tried another CD. After i inserted the CD it came up with a message saying ''Please insert CD into drive E'', but there is already one in there?????

    yup, the lens is unable to recognise the 'start' of the CD, so therefore the drive is informed one isn't in it.

    As I said, it's either dirty or has degraded to the point where it needs replacing, 50/50 bet on either.

    Go to the Everythings a Pound shop and get a cd/dvd cleaner, try that and if no success then it is duff, buy a new one off ebay.
