Hi, I'm applying for a barclay platinum cashback card and on the application they ask for your work telephone number, do they actually call the workplace up? what info would they ask for?

I usually use my mobile number for that (I've not had a fixed base for my work in the past so that was even how the bosses found me when I was working) and I've never had anybody ring me about an application. Unless there's something unusual (like a shelf stacker claiming to earn £100k pa) I can't see them needing to use it for your application.0
