It was in a sort of Christmas sweet - crackers don't exist here. Darn! There goes my literary reputation!
Well ... typically French, I suppose! Merci bien. ( I bet that's wrong)

Except when you just want a quick idea of what a text is about, avoid them at all costs.
As a quick demo, type in a sentence of English into the translator, and ask it to translate into a language of your choice.
Then copy the translation back into the translator and have it put into English. The result, which SHOULD be your original English, will generally be more or less gobbledegook, depending on how complicated the English was.
Example:
I typed in a fairly non-demanding piece of English: "The sea bass, presented with a selection of seasonal vegetables, and cooked to within an inch of perfection, was a delight to the taste buds and was complemented exquisitely by the dry white wine chosen by the maître d'hôtel."
This was translated into French as: "Le bar, a pr!sent! avec une s!lection de l!gumes de saison, et cuits à un pouce au sein de la perfection, est un r!gal pour les papilles et a !t! compl!t!e par l'exquise vin blanc sec choisi par le maître d'hôtel."
And came back in English as: "The bar, presented with a selection of seasonal vegetables, and cooked to within an inch of perfection, is a feast for the taste buds and was complemented by the exquisite dry white wine chosen by the developer hotel."
Hmm. Don't use for legal documents, eh?
Edit: Every "!" in the French should be an e-acute. This site really doesn't like them!Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930 -

Probably just because there's spare server resources.

I would agree but you had no clue what it was before translation but after you do have some clue as to what it is, even if parts are wrong you have more information than what you started with.
And going from one langauge to another and back it going to increase the error more than if you just translate it once.0
