Travel Insurance, query about ill relatives

Just about to take out my travel insurance for this year and i was going to go with the same company as last as they cover my pre existing medical conditions, however i appear to have come up with a potential stumbling block and thought you guys may know what it may entail.

In the conditions it says at the time of taking out the insurance your immediate family must not be on a waiting list or waiting for an operation....My mum is waiting to have a hysterectomy carried out ,we are hoping it'll be completed by the time i go on holiday as she has one of these certain things health insurance so hopefully should be soon, but my question is i presume that i can take out the cover but if i were to cancel for that reason then i wouldnt be awarded a pay out am i correct?

Yes. I think you are right.
If you wanted to cancel becuase of your mums op then I doubt you'd be covered.

However the situation might be different if you renew the same policy (rather than taking a new one).
I'm not sure about that but in general you wouldn't be insured for risks that existed when you took the policy.

In most cases when you renew it's regarded as a continous policy if you see what I mean.

My dad died very suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart attack. My sister had to cancel her holiday for 2 days later due to his death. The insurance did not pay out, as my dad had had a previous heart attack 10 years previously!!!! Well hello!!! we all expect our parents to just drop dead...NOT! How the hell are you supposed to allow for something like that happening, and more so how can they use it as a get out clause!.
Sorry for the rant... and I hope you get your insurance sorted.
