Can anyone help before I call out an expensive plumber.
Got up this morning - house was cold - have done the pressure thingy on the boiler to make sure that was ok - and have perfectly ok water. Have switched system off left for a while and switched back on again - boiler fired up then went off. Thought it could be the room thermostat - but could it be other things too - the boiler is working fine - it is just the central heating that is not coming on - anyone got any ideas please???

No it's not. Most likely cause is the timer or thermostat as you originally thought.0 -
Hi
Make and model would help.
First thing is to check that all the external controls ,room stat and or programmer are actually calling for heat. You might have a programmer built in to the boiler.
Next would be the divertor.
If you have to ask how to test the electrics on the controls then I guess you need an expensive electrician.;) Followed by the expensive plumber or corgi for the divertor.
Corgi Guy.Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)0 -
Testing? I was always taught to change every conceivable part until normal operation resumed. Rogue Traders taught me that one.
Trying to think of excuses why all of the new bits didn't work - now thats a skill.0 -
We had a similar problem, it turned out to be the 3 way valve0
