Asda - Food Safety Query

Last week I sat down to eat 3 steak medallions from Asda with my husband. My husband had 2 lovely peices of steak and I had pork! It turns out that 2 of the medallions were steak and pork was the other. I considered this to be highly dangerous but not sure of food cross contamination. The pork had obviously been swimming in beef blood since its packaging. I took the meat packaging and the pork back to Asda who said they would sen dit off for testing. Today I received a standard letter saying that they were sorry I had pork and here was a £5 voucher.
As far as I concerned this is not enough - not with regards to money but an explanation. Do u think I should write back. Does anyone no the food safety standards with regards to storing of meat.
Thanks for any help.

Would it matter as long as both were raw?
i thought it was only dangerous to mix cooked and uncooked meat when storing.
I think you can store raw beef, pork and even chicken together.
If the beef blood is safe to eat,it won't harm the pork.0 -
Iwork in a butchers & Hollydays is right, it's safe.
The only thing that would annoy me is because I had a meat of lesser value in the pack but if they have apologised and given you a voucher, they have done all they have to do.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Is it more a question of "if they got it so wrong that the wrong meat ended up in there, what else could have ended up in there?"?0

Thank you for all your replies. I spent most of the morning looking for answers I should have just come on here !:j0

What if you were of a religion that didn't eat pork? It's really bad practice to mix them because so many people don't eat it. Ooh I'd be very cross!0

You wouldn't eat it,then,would you.:D0

I'm gonna ask a silly question now (sorry!), but are you sure it was pork??
Did the difference in colour not make you aware that they were not all the same?Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

not just a religion problem but i am highly allergic to pork - something like this could make me ill even if i had eaten the steak one!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
It's very bad practice, but it's not dangerous. As people have mentioned, people don't eat pork for religious/health reasons so it's not really acceptable to mix it with other kinds of meat. However, as it hasn't harmed you in any major physical or psychological way, I think that you should accept the voucher and move on. It was bad practice, but mistakes do happen.
I'm confused though how they mixed them up? Steak and pork look quite different, especially when they're in medallions. Must have had the new boy behind the meat counter lol ...0 -
