Childs Halifax Account Charges help

Hi
This is my first post so here goes...
My parents opened an account for me with Halifax in 1982 (circa) and deposited some money - my name and fathers name (as guardian) was on the account. I'm about to call them to see how my account is doing but have heard that they charge on accounts - can they do this on childrens accounts?
If they have and all the funds are gone does anyone know if I can reclaim them?
Thank you!

I've been advised I need to go into a branch so any advise on what I say if it is the worst case? As you can see I'm a 'newbie' so any help appreciated as I'd like to get it right first time round - thank you0
