A gale blowing through the floor

last week I had my central heating upgraded. Which meant the chip board floors being cut up.
Well today I was sat on the floor with my laptop and could have swore I saw the carpet move. But as it was out of the corner of my eye thought it was eyes playing tricks.
Nope the carpet is moving. Pulled back the carpet by the rad and found that the piece of chip board put down as a replacement was not big enough to fill the gap and under the skirting board I can see the breeze blocks.
Now I can replace the bit of board better then the central heating guy could. But I have checked the gaps from the other bits of floors that have been screwed down there is a bit of draft.
Will a bit of carpet tape be ok to cover the gaps and keep the drafts out. And wht about the gaps around the pipes. At the moment there is carpet down but would still like to have gaps plugged up.
Yours (very chilly and begining to regret having the central heating put in now.)

I'd shove some of that loft insulation type stuff in the gaps. It'll stop the draughts but will still allow ventilation.0

I had the same problem in my bedroom. It's an extension over the garage and badly fitted board were allowing draughts to come up through the floor. I took up the boards and put a layer of loft insulation underneath. That's cured the problem. I also increased the insulation in the ceiling and my bedroom is a lot warmer now. Here I go again on my own....0

........alternatively, a cheap/money saving option is to lay some newspapers down on the floor underneath your carpets. Newspaper is a good insulation material, as most fish & chips shops will agree.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride.
