Is there anywhere I can bank a load of Euro coins?

I do the accounts for a charity that had an event in Ireland last year. They had bucket collections and got about £500 in euro coins. They didn't think to bank them while they were over there and now it looks like we are stuck with them
Anywhere in the UK take them?

Some bureau de changes may change them, but they tend to give a very low rate of exchange on coins (especially for that many).0

I wonder if they are in danger of losing their charitable status, displaying incompetence of that order?
Surely their UK staff go on foreign holidays, they could all take €50 or so each time, exchanged at whatever the going rate is at the time (they might even get more than their value at the time of collection, the way the € has gone in that time!).0 -
Try the Irish banks over here-usually they'd say no but as it was a charity event they may be able to help.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Agree with Biggles. As long as the coins are all in decent denominations you should be fine. It's not like you're left with Outer Mongolian Dollars or something.
But there's probably a better way. Some charities and charity shops (BHF, maybe?) ask for donations of foreign coins - spare change after people have been on holiday.
Can yuo find one of these and ask them what they do with them?0 -
That was the only thing I could come up with - staff using the money up in dribs and drabs as they go abroad.
Biggles - I think 'incompetence' is a bit harsh - not thinking outside the box is more like it.0 -
I lived over in Ireland and sent Euro cheques over to my Mum. She banks with Barclays and she filled out a form which allowed her to pay in Euro cheques. I'm sure it's the same form for cash. You got that rate of exchange on that day. Go into your bank and ask if there is a way of doing it.0

So, they set out to collect money and then forget that they have to account for it.
I thought 'incompetence' was being very kind. I should like to know which charity, in order that I can give it a wide berth in future.0 -

I know that they now will also collect for FREE any coins over 3KG so it's worth taking advantage of this and save yourself a few quid in the process!!
Also they recommend sending small amounts by Royal Mail Recorded Delivery, stating that this insures them up to £41. This is incorrect. Cash is specifically excluded from compensation via recorded delivery. If the company does not know this it is incompetent. If it does know it is disingenuous.0 -
