Simple Accounting Software for Freelancer

I am looking for *simple* to use piece of software which I can use for book-keeping, producing simple reports throughout the year and the necessary year-end reports (i.e. profit & loss accounts) for my Tax Return. I am freelance web designer, and typically raise a small amount of larger invoices per month (2-3 is the norm), and have relatively few expenses save for the occasional sub-contractor and equipment purchases, so do not need anything overly complex.
In an ideal world I would like the software to be able to handle invoice and quote production, but I suspect I might not get this.
VAT handling isn't needed at present, but I anticipate it will be at some point, so the ability to handle that is probably a prerequisite.
Just to throw a spanner in to the works, I am Apple Mac based, so ideally it would be good if it could run on there, but if absolutely necessary, I do have access to a PC. So far, QuickBooks Simple Start looks about right, but it's PC only.
Any tips would be *greatly* apprecaited!

Have you consider using a windows emulator on your mac?:

I'm sorry I'm not well up on mac software, but offhand I would suggest that maybe Microsoft Money running on a virtual PC could work.0 -
I'm currently trying out Invoice It! on a free 30 day trial and so far I'm quite impressed.
It produces Quotes and Invoices as you require, which can be e-mailed and includes business accounting & more - all for £48.00.
Worth checking out.
