In simple terms, it is the light sensor inside the camcorder that converts light to electrical impulses. General rule of thumb is the bigger the CCD sensor, the better.

From the Google check, it looks like a very high-end camcorder!

    Thanks

Im trying to chose between a 1/6 and a 1/8 CCD imager. Any idea which would give a better quality picture?

Well, 1/6 is bigger than 1/8 so on that basis, I'll say the 1/6...

Which 2 camcorders are you talking about?

Depending on your usage and your budget, this is an interesting time to buy a camcorder as there is a lot of choice.

Well if you can afford the extra £35, the 310 will be better than the 110 which is really an entry-level camera.

BTW, PC World has the DVD106 at a slightly lower price (it is basically the same as the 110)...

thanks, never thought of trying pc world. I do want a good 1 as my last two were both absolute rubbish.

Are there any specific ones youd recommend?

    Hi there,

I'm also looking to buy a camcorder, and would really love some help and advice on the best way to go about this. I know absolutely nothing about them, I dont understand any of the jargon, but would just like a decent one that will not end up braking on me (as it is for a present)

    Thanks x

Lashes, I'm no expert but the Sony/Panasonic/Canon entry level ones are usually excellent starters. The problem now is that there a few different formats to choose from. I'm going to suggest that either the miniDV or DVD entry level camcorders are probably best to look for.

    For both of you; have a look at these websites to do some reading & research;

    CNET
    Camera Price Buster

And this where the real experts hang out...

    Simply DV

Unfortuntely some of the best sites are US-based and it can a little confusing as they have different model numbers. Let's see if you think these are useful. ;)
