Stair carpet - how many metres?

Hi ,
I went to the carpet shop today to buy carpet for hall and stairs and also a carpet for the lounge. I asked the salesman how much carpet needed for the hall and stairs and I think he may have told porkys. You see, the lounge is 6
metres by 3.2 metres at the widest and he got this to 27m2 !! ( even I know its 24m2)

Please could someone in the know tell me how much carpet in m2 I need for the hall and stairs. Its a 4metre roll.

lower hall 250cm x 90 cm

Big step 84cm x 50 cm

11 steps at 84 cm wide by 22cm along and 20 cm down .

top hall 85cm by 195 cm .

Someone is coming out to measure it ( although I insisted nothing wrong with my measurements) so it would be great if I could tell them how many metres I need , the way its worked out would be extra great .

There will be a piece 53cm x 350 cm left over from the lounge if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Mark

When I put carpet throuout my house all I needed was the number of steps. I then accounted for the hallway and landing separatly.

It depends ! If your carpet has a pattern you will need extra to get all the bits to line up properly.

They will probably send a carpet fitter out to measure it properly rather than having someone from the showroom work it out on the back of a fag packet.
If you aren't happy after this, ask them to explain.

It depends on how many pieces of carpet you want on your strairs. when you are having your hall layed if you leave the 'offcut' attached then it should do about a third of your stair case, the same will apply to the landing carpet, you then use your other offcut to carpet the middle of the stairs. So in stead of having one piece of carpet for the stairs you will have 3 pieces.

(I know what I mean, but has it come across properly?)
