Egg are offering £15 to customers who activate their money manager 9which lets you put all your accounts on the one site - theirs) before 1st September. Call me sceptical but why are they doing this? What's in it for them?
They also promise to ot peek at your other accounts.
Should I believe them?

I also got the money but actually find the money manager really useful. I have my money is several different places (for current account, savings, and ccs) and love not having to remember all the different security stuff. What did I do at work before I discovered MSE?!

NOW - not sure, due to boyfriend going back to uni for masters and now pgce. Worth it in the long run!

I guess at some point in the future they will either charge for this service, or they will start highlighting where you could save by switching to an Egg product.
If you use the moneysupermarket version it tells you how much you could potentially save by switching, although havn't found it that accurate as it doesn't know about whether you are a full payer, stoozer, on offer or take account of loan repayment penalties etc.

, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.0 -
I find it really useful too, I think it's a great idea. And if it makes them realise all my money is with banks that are far better than them and they want to start competing by offering a better account, then so much the better!
My only gripe is that i signed up for it before they started offering you money for it  Never mind!

Brillian idea and even better the incentive. I have quite a few accounts and MM me immediately the state of my finances.0

I would say that the reason for them is more information about the type of accounts you're holding - they don't know the account balances or details, but they will have a very good idea what sort of account it is. So, they might see that you have two other credit cards, a savings account, etc, etc, and I guess they can target relevant advertising at you.
Just as importantly it (can be / is) a genuinely useful service, and from their point of view it gets you onto their website where again you have the opportunity to use more of Egg's own services.0 -
Be careful and read your T & C's as one of my accounts states that using a portal site like EGG or First Directs which holds your password will invalidate fraud claims if accessed in this manner fraudulently.I have a cunning plan!

Can you post the actual wording of the T&Cs that forbid you from using Egg Money Manager or First Direct's portal? I ask because, strictly speaking, the Egg website does not actually hold your password, which remains encrypted on your PC at all times.Eh?? I give up!! Towel is getting thrown in here!

I actually find the service really useful. It saves me remembering all those passwords for my accounts and lets me see an overview in one place. It only takes a click then to get in to each account. I've been registered for years so missed out on the £15.
In terms of fraud I recall that Egg will guarantee against any losses.
On Moneysupermarket - just beware as they only deal with companies that pay to be on their site so you might find better deals elsewhere as they just promote companies that pay them.0
