Hi all, just a question. I turned on my computer this morning and it appears that I have lost everything. My photos have all gone, my documents etc. Is there anything i can do to get them back. Its as if the computer is brand new and I'm having to sign in to everything which i don't usually and its asking if I want windows to remember passwords which it hasn't done since it was bought about 4 years ago.
Can anyone help?

Search the whole of the c: drive for *.jpg or whatever, check they are not hiding somewhere, if that doesn't work, try running restoration, if that doesn't work, you could try running chkdsk c: /F and reboot.

They are probably still there, but the more work you do on the PC, the less chance you have of getting them back. Ideally you should shut the machine down, move the disk to another machine as a slave, and image the drive, but it is a little involved, it depends how important they are to you, once imaged, you can do further tinkering, system restore etc, or you could pay someone to look at it, but they will do nothing that you can't do yourself.
This is a list of basic and advanced data recovery software, the catch is the more you install, the more the chance that you will overwrite the data area with the photos, restoration is quite small, so unlikely to be a problem, if it doesn't work, and you want to try a more advanced one, try this: http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-products.htm
