BT Overkill

Hi Guys,

Currently a group of us are moving out of our shared flat.
We have been here 8 month and had BT a line for 7 months, we have told them we are leaving and want to cancel the line but they are trying to charge us a £70  disconnection fee.

Can they do this?

Thanks
Neil

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Thanks,

But as we would only have 5 months of the 12 month term left (Current Line rental is £10.50 I believe), wouldnt we only be liable for £52.50?

Call them up to clarify that point.

If you took service on or after 1st May 2007, the charge for ending a 12 month line rental contract early should be the lower amount of either £70, or the total of the monthly line rental left in the minimum period.

I have just left BT and recieved my final "bill" today. On it was a charge of £42.59 for cancelling services within a minimum term period. As I had not agreed to a fixed term contract nor recieved any information I phoned them up. (I was not very happy !!! ) I told them I was not aware that I was either on a fixed term contract and had not recieved any information regarding this fee. Because they had failed to inform me of the fee before I recieved the bill they have cancelled the charges. :D

It is worth calling them and seeing what they say as that sounds totally unreasonable! I dont see how they can justify charging you for a service when you are actually moving out.
JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200:D FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

Wow, what fantastic news! You must be one of the lucky ones.

I have left bt before the end of my 12 month contract and they have sent me an invoice for £130ish  (dont have the bill to hand).

I have rang serveral times, have got dates, times and names, spoke to every man & his dog in delhi and Im no further in resolving my complaint!!!

    Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I have tried asking them to break down the bill for me and I just keep getting different answers.

Can they charge me £70 cancellation charge AND the remaining months of the contract????

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE someone help! I cant bear ringing anymore.

    Should I try e-mailing this ben.verwaayen@bt.com ??

Any suggestions / advice would be greatly received!!

    Many Thanks

Snap! I was charged nearly £30 for a get out fee on a call mobile suppliment thingy that I wasn't told about. When I rang to cancel (moving home) I specifically asked what charges I'd have to pay and was only told I'd pay the last bill plus £6 to end my broadband services. Because of that, and because I rang up blatantly peeved, they pulled the happy, friendly BT persona out of the bag and wrote off the £30 charge there and then.

I think it's a retentions tactic (or a "come back if your new provider doesn't work out" tactic). Either way, same experience for me.
