Windscreen chip repair and NCB? + replacement screen rust!
I've just got my churchill policy through (£110 quidco cash back thankyou kindly) and for full windscreen replacement it states £75 excess which isn't too bad - for chips it states £10 excess which again isn't too bad, the repairs have to be carried out by the approved companies though.
My question I do have a couple of stone chips i'm wondering if I repair them will the fact i'm paying the £10 excess count as a claim - hence loss of NCB and increased premium? or don't I have to state this claim on next years confused.com price search and will I still get a certificate for full NCB? - Same question on the replacement winscreen if I go down this route and pay the £75 excess.
Lastly is the talk of badly fitted windscreens and lack of correct installation/sealant causing premature rusting, more wind noise and not as good a seal as before - scaremongering by certain glass companies? I read about it a lot and how its important to go with joe blogs windscreens over john smiths windscreens as the above is a common problem. Any real life experiences of above and suggestions on avoiding it?

Whilst it's possible, every windscreen I've seen fitted they've used enough mastic to do the whole car no matter what the company.0

Well, yes it will count as 'a claim' - because it is 'a claim' - and you have to declare it when obtaining quotes in the future.
However, with 99% of insurers, if you make a claim solely under the glass damage section of a policy it will not reduce your NCD (and will not prevent you earning a year NCD at the end of the policy year if no other non-glass claims are made).
The 1% exception to this rule includes Swiftcover, who I wouldn't touch with a bargepole.0 -
ive seen cars rotted around the screen due to bad work ...its cuased when they scratch the hell out of the frame under the glass , and then leave it bare so it rusts eventualy
having said that...all the screen fitters ive seen do a pretty decent job , not much you can do really to ensure a good job...id prob avoid RAC fitters based on what ive seen0 -
Thanks for advice. Since it doesn't affect the NCD but is declarable on next years insurance I wonder how much affect it has on premiums?0

I made a windscreen claim last summer. I haven't had to renew yet, but based upon some quotes via confused.com, declaring it seems to add about £4 to my premium. Your mileage may vary.0

Often it will have no effect as long as you haven't made three or four glass claims. In some cases it might add literally a few pounds to a quote, but not so much that it becomes sensible to fix it yourself.0
