Camp site down south

Hi, am looking for a small friendly campsite for large tent, and 3 kids near the coast but not on the seafront, around dorset area (coming over severn bridge and want to head straight down!)
Showers and facilities must be very good, ideally located near a small village (shop and pub) and approx 5 - 10 miles from a tourist town.
If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

There are quite a few in and around Torquay, Paignton too. Try typing "camping at Torquay" into google co uk and you'll see plenty of places in there. You'll also find a web site (Forum) all about camping (ukcampsite.....) about the 4th or 5th one down the page. Register there and they will help you so very much.

Hi, I've been on ukcampsite and I've seen hundreds of sites as I was looking for a small site the couple I've found didn't have websites so I could find more info, and was hoping someone on here may have visited an ideal campsite. I'm not concerned where it is down south as long as its close to the coast, Thanks, Kathryn

We stayed there a couple of years ago and it was very nice. Nice pub close by that does food too and village shops as well as the camp shop. It's close to Swanage.

Anyone been to Mounts Farm in Kingsbridge?, sounds ideal, only 50 pitches

The forestry commission have some sites in the New Forest which is just the other side of Bournemouth - not quite Dorset, but close.

I spent about 3 days down there in the site at Holmsley and it was great. Facilities were fine and it wasn't too expensive. The site itself was an old abandoned airstrip so there was lots of room.

Hi, we stayed at DORNAFIELD nr Newton Abbot. It is a fantastic site, showers very powerful and spotless, clean and free. Wardens and owners are friendly and will help with anything. We stayed in a big tent and really enjoyed it and will be going back again!

I've not been there, but have a look at the reviews on it here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?page=2&revid=4556 it sounds peaceful, lovely views too. I can quite see why you're finding out first as some can be not so good. Good luck and I really hope you find what you're looking for.

Still in South Devon but further East than Torquay is Dawlish. About 2-3 miles inland is Cofton Farm where I stayed many years ago. There is a large static van area on one side of the country lane but the touring tent/van area on the other side is really nice & very clean & well maintained.
