I'm looking for a handheld satnav that has OS maps as I do a lot of walking through countryside. It must show footpaths, contourlines, rivers etc - is there such a device?

I think I am right in saying that satmap is the only one that uses OS maps... the device is a reasonable price but because of the OS mapping the "maps" are not cheap...:eek:0

Perosnally I think you'd be bettre off with a basic handheld and then use MemoryMap, Anquet or Tracklogs to plan routes and upload them to the GPS, then print off a map and carry it with you. You should always have a paper map and a compass with you as backup as electronics can fail.
The trouble with an OS map on a handheld SatNav is the screen is too small to see a decent amount of map.
Amother option is a PDA running MemoryMap or the like conected to a GPS receiver. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
memorymap is good - have a look at that.0

£280 for the unit, and more than £100 for a county at 1:25K
No wonder there are so many bootleg copies of maps on the net :rotfl:
I use OziExplorer with scanned paper maps - easy enough if you don't need more than one or two OS maps. Recently installed on a £60 Becker SatNav from Tesco and running fine.
Have a look at https://www.gpspassion.com. Lots of potential solutions there if you'd rather spend time than money!0
