Admittedly, Electric heating is probably THE most expensive way going to heat a home. However, if it is operated correctly on the correct tarrif, it can work out reasonable when no other options are available.

Have you folks made sure that they havn't (inadvertantly) got any boost switched on during peak hours?

Is the bill from a reading or an estimate? are they on the most suitable tarrif (at least Economy 7, but if possible heatwise or economy 10)?

thanx, ive just spoken to mother, the guy who comming to check the meter can only come on the 25th,seems a long time to me.anyhow dm doesnt know how to check for things like boost switches.i think reading between the lines dm & df have an estimated bill.the storage heaters are the really old ones, should be condemed really.they are on ec 7 dont know if they allowed to switch to another or how to apply or even who to.i live different town to them so just nipping round isnt an option to help them.I have told them as requested to try and cut down on things like lights ect wen no need to have them on.As i thought df insisting now nothing gets switched on at all.will have a look at your other link and try and help them find some ways of saving their elec usage .
