extension

if anyone could please help with info about extensions please wed be grateful. at the mo were living in a 2 bedroom 12 year old house with a large back, front and side garden. were wanting some extra room and trying to decide if to move or build an extension.. a 3rd bedroom and extend the kitchen to create large kitchen diner. we havent a clue where to start to see if it would be worth building or how to get plans drawn up/choose a builder. we would be borrowing the cash to finance the extension on out mortgage.. we have 40k equity.

We recently extended our old 2 bed house to include a larger kitchen, 3rd bedroom with en-suite purely to increase the value of the property. the first step before actually parting with any money would be to get planning permission from your local council. If/when this gets approved (could be fairly time consuming) there are some companies / builders that will undertake the whole project - ie get the plans drawn up - undertake the build.

You will normally find these within local papers or yellow pages. Basically what I did was to contact said such company and they put the plans together for me. I then took the plans to various builders and got a cheaper quote. I obviously had to pay the first builder for the plans but saved myself money by shopping round.

    Hope this helps a little!
