Plug stuck in the bath

Help, I can't get the bathplug out! It's a flat metal one with a spindle that is raised and lowered by turning a knob on the overflow. There is no movement of the plug at all when the knob is turned and I can't even get the slimmest screwdriver or blade down the edge of the plug to get any leverage or break the seal.

Any ideas? Or are these plugs easily replaceable so if necessary I could somehow 'drill it out' and then buy a new one?

  • Got a good magnet lying around?

  • First things first.

DO NOT USE YOUR LAPTOP IN THE BATH - GET OUT NOW!

Oops, you said you were non-blonde...

    Seriously, only two suggestions.

    1. If you can remove the overflow knob you might be able to fiddle with the rods that pop the plug up.

    2. Empty the bath using buckets etc, and towels for the last remaining water. Then dry the plug thoroughly and glue/tape something to it and pull it.

Please, please, please let me know how you get on!!!

    WD40?

Sink plunger might help to 'suck it up'?
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Ha ha ha, very funny! Though maybe the laptop is running on the battery... :p

Some good suggestions so far! Thanks very much - am at work so will try them out when I get home and let you know how I get on. Had to have a shower this morning standing in my sons cold bathwater from last night - not pleasant!

  • Yay, problem sorted :j

Ended up removing the bath panel, taking off the u-bend and pushing it up from underneath. Very relieved.

Oh, and I'm the proud new owner of a pair of mouldy mens trainers that were hiding under the bath. Lucky, lucky me :D

if you look closer you might find a few bones lying about that belong to the poor sod who fell asleep when your bath was being fitted

What you need is a good hacksaw and some towels.

Cut a hole in the side of the bath in a U shape and create a walk in bath
like on the TV adverts for pensioners.

Use the towels for any excess water.
