In view of Queenie's absence I've copied across her post starting the July Challenge and renamed it for August. That way it's still Queenie who starts us all off for the next month.
Best of luck to you all

thanks squeaky. i really miss queenies posts lets hope she returns soon.
just wanted to say that i am going to aim for £50.00 this month from my total housekeeping budget (everything bar bills and extra debt repayments). dont think i can match julys total pms as i had present of cigarettes from a friend and walked loads to save on petrol.
but im going to give august a good go and try and hit the fifty quid target!!!
good luck to all other PMS'ers out there!!!

Right, I'm actually going to give this a go this month. We're still fine tuning the shopping budget so I'm going to start that challenge in September, but I think I'm going to do the pms challenge (and put the proceeds towards paying off the cc)
I reckon a gentle start of £30 could be worth a try.
As far as petrol vs exercise goes, do I work out how much I would have spent on diesel and then add it? I bike to the corner shop now, and reckon I save 20p a time ... does that count?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 002 :rotfl:0 -
oh squeaks......you got me all excited thinking queenie was back!!!!
will be participating this month as finally getting finances into order
think i'll start off with a teeny £20 this month as doing the store cupboard challenge so little need to go to shops meaning i wont be using coupons etc.0 -
Sorry, but I did say elsewhere that I'd start the thread off properly so that Queenie got due credit for it if she hadn't managed to get back with us.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Ok ..... well I'm up for the August challenge too. I'm setting myself a target of £20.
I joined in last month but didn't really get going so I'll be starting afresh from the 1st
Good luck all x0 -
Right, I'm going to start this month! Reason being that I have a few things I want to buy in the coming months: a good mattress, and a TFT monitor for my PC (£150 - to give me more desk space). Neither is essential, (how much?! Not sure!)but will, I think, aid my quality of life! These are things I will be buying anyway, and neither on credit, and I can technically afford them. But I would feel much less guilty buying them if I knew the savings I had managed to make in other areas. Also, since reading the July thread, I have noticed all the little savings I've made which would have added up for July.
My August starts on Saturday. Good luck everyone! (oh, and I know that I won't be saving enough in PIN-money to afford the above items!...but anything I save will bring down the cost of those items by the same amount, which is nice!)...0 -
I'm in on this one too. Failed dismally in July due to too many visitors requiring too much food and drink not to mention presents for the baby etc. Car need welding done and service / MOT due soon as well so I need all the money I can get together. Bad month work-wise in July as had to have several days off due to mother in hospital etc (I'm only paid for the hours I put in). However, I WILL succeed. . . . eventually!0

Ooh! Moderate boast - got £7.73 off at Asda in coupons today! All downloaded and printed ones and the ones that wouldn't scan she put in by hand

Well - I was doing my PMS challenge from pay day to pay day (15th) but having been out getting DD her new shoes n stuff for school and birthday presents, I have had to raid my pin money tin and so have decided to join you all on 1st August and start again. I will try harder this month - honest!
I am a bit annoyed that I had to touch it but then thought it's silly if I leave it there when I've overspent and hopefully I'll do better in August.
Another blow to the budget was when I went to feed the cat and found there was no food in the cupboard - normally I put it in a smaller container out of a big bag and I'd forgotten to put it on the shopping list when I emptied the bag last week. That's the food budget cut for this week as I had to get a new bag quick this afternoon out of my food money
Good Luck everyone, I'm missing Queenie too, hope she's back with us soon.A penny saved is one you don't have to earn! :wave:0 -
Im starting this challenge for August but im not giving myself a target yet as this will be my first attemp.I have written down everything ive spent in july to see where i go wrong and i sure do waste alot which i dont have.
With me being new to all this saving im hoping im going to have enough pin money by xmas to get a breadmaker,a panasonic one of course.Do i also need to buy scales so i can weigh out my flour????,dim question i know but im not sure if you lot just use cups or jugs for measuring your ingredients out.0
