can anyone help re needing a bottom for my compost bin!

mine is on paving slabs... no problems with worms, slugs, snails finding their way in! I get great compost so soil isn't needed if you don't have a patch of soil available

Having it sit on top of soil (and having no bottom) is mainly for drainage reasons rather than to allow worms in. Without drainage it would inhibit oxygen penetration and would quickly turn into a smelly slimy mess. In anycase compost worms are usually a special kind of worm known as "Brandlings" by fishermen (who use them for fishing) rather than soil borne earthworms.
