Help Needed

hi, i want to uninstall windows vista, and put my copy of xp back on my pc, only problem being when i put my xp disk in my tower, and restart the pc it does not come up with the option of starting from disk, like it used to before i had vista on the pc, i have checked my boot sequence in bios, and it is set to boot from cd, so that is not a problem, i have read before about it being difficult to take vista off and put xp back on, but i am pretty sure that i have done this before, when my pc kept playing up with vista, so i put xp back on until i had figured out what was up with my pc, to make vista so unstable, but for the life of me, cannot remember how i managed to get xp back on, does anybody have any ideas, any help gratefully accepted, many thanks Dave.

There is no reason why it shouldn't boot from CD if the boot order is set correctly, Vista will not stop the CD from booting. I would suggest that as you boot up that you keep an eye open for the select boot device option that should come up briefly, it usually wants you to hit F10 or F11.

Is it an original WinXP disk? Can you read the CD from Vista?

yes it is an original xp disk, yes it does read in vista, when u load it up in vista, it gives u 5 menus, number 1 being install xp(which obviously it wont let u do until u boot it up from disk), and 4 other menus, before when i had xp on the machine, and i needed to re put it on for whatever reason, when i put the disk in and restart the pc, a thing came up at the bottom of the screen saying press a key to boot up from cd, but now with vista on the pc, when i restart the pc with xp disk in the drive, i do not get that option, like i say i have swapped from vista to xp beofre, just cannot remember what i had to do to do it.

Check the boot order in the bios again and ensure that that the CD Rom drive is first in the list.

As you are wiping the disc you could try the Vista disc and Format through that .
Once format finished reboot with the XP disc in the drive instead of Vista and install as normal . All that you are unable to do is install XP as an upgrade from within a vista windows environ .

PS dont forget when you do boot from a cd/dvd you have to watch the scree and hit the enter button when it says boot from cd/dvd otherwise it continues to load the OS .
