I've got a speeding ticket !!

can anyone help on advice please.

I received a speeding ticket in the post yesterday I was supposedly doing 40 mph in 30 mph zone.

This was from a mobile unit.

Someone has told me today that I can write to ask to see the calibration certificate for the gun used to catch me.

Is this correct??? and what if it hadn't been calibrated, what do I do?

Any advise would be appreciated
TIA

Pay the fine, why is it that people that have been speeding think they should not have to pay the fine or try to find a way out of paying.

If you do not want to be caught don't speed.

Were you speeding? ... if so pay the fine and stop wasting police time (and be a quick learner).

If you genuinely do not believe you were speeding then you could try the site for pepipoofs for more help.

Do you honestly believe it was 33% out?

By all means contest it but you're facing a court appearance and a potential increase in fine/costs and penalty points.

    Thanks for the advise.

I will be paying the fine and taking the points, I honestly don't think I was travelling that fast.

The person that mentioned the calibration thing to me say the guns can be out?? I only wanted to know if anyone else had heard about this. As I hadn't

After 20 years of driving this is my first ticket.

Mobile Units usually use cameras not speed (radar) guns. Guns are normally used by the police and they will generally stop you there and then if you have exceeded the prescribed limit.

And do not be put off by the pay the fine mob if you exceed the limit.

Speed limits are artifical limits and often bear no relationship to the type of road, its location and more importnatly the prevailing conditions. Remember, it is not speed that kills or injures but inappropriate speed. Speed limits often desrve no respect and are cash cows for the local Safety (what a joke) Camera Partnership enabling it to grow like an out of control cancer.

And while I'm ranting my pet subject is 20 mph limits in towns to avaoid injring or killing pedestrians. Another political con. How many pedestrians are chased down the pavement by speeding cars? Not many I would suggest. Pedestrians get injured generally because they do not use any road or common sense and step out in to the road without looking or being mindful of the conditions prevailing. If they get hit tough luck. If more money was spent eductaing pedestrians in road sense and the Highway Code they could look after their own health and safety instead of being featherbedded by the lefty and green car hating loonies. Or perhaps the real reason for these stupidly low limits is to raise more cash?

what would you prefer a sign that says 20mph in wet weather,30mph in dry weather and what ever you want after 10pm ! what ever the limit it is its the law and speaking as a fully paid up member of the mob if you cant afford the fine dont do the crime ! im guessing you have been caught speeding !!

One point to make is that ALL car speedometers over-read. Therefore if you were clocked at 40mph, you were probably doing 42-43 or so on the speedo.

But you're taking the points and paying the fine, so well done for not trying to wriggle out of it.

A few years back I was done for 86mph in a 70mph. I thought it was a bit high as I hadn't realised I'd gone that fast, so I checked the tracker in the car, and I was doing exactly 86mph at that time. I paid up!

There are various systems that change the speed limit depending on the weather. France has two speed limits depending if it's wet or dry.

The M25, parts of Germany and the US have automated systems that can adjust the limit according to conditions. These are enforced by fixed cameras.
