Which Cable Do I Need?

Hi all, just a quickie here.
I've decided to scrap wireless for my pc and ps3 so looking to buy a cable for each, pretty sure it's cat5 i need and have found what looks like a good buy on amazon, there are 2 types but I'm not sure which one is right for me.

I have a netgear router (dg834g v3)

The 2 choices I have:
Belkin Cat5e Snagless UTP Patch Cable (Grey) 30m
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Cat5e-Snagless-Patch-Cable/dp/B00009VGT8/ref=pd_sbs_ce_title_2

15m Ethernet RJ45 Network Cable
http://www.amazon.co.uk/15m-Ethernet-RJ45-Network-Cable/dp/B000IT5PNA/ref=pd_sbs_ce_title_1

Thanks in advance

Mike

Well as we don't know how long the cable needs to be, you decide!

Sorry, I don't mean the length but the type. Or are they both the same type?

It's not actually clear from the description whether they are the same spec.

The shorter one could (in theory) be Cat5 and not Cat5e - though I doubt that anyone is actually making Cat5 cables any more ( but it could I guess be old stock).

However, as your router doesn't include a Gigabit switch, it shouldn't make any difference anyway.

Get a crossover cable for Ethernet ... RJ45 or Catg5e is ok .... 15m is awfully long.

oh my god ! DONOT get a crossover cable, a STRAIGHT through one is required, I guess you also have an internet router attached to the pc and ps3?

IF you want to connect pc to ps3 DIRECTLY (you have not made this clear) then a crossover cable is required, any old ethernet cat5(e)cable, say 5m (15ft). Mark the cable as such.

If you need to connect several pc's, router/internet, ps3, networked printer then you want a straight through cable for each connection.

Sorry, I should have been a bit more clear in my first post.
I am going to connect my pc into the router (port 1)
ps3 into the router (port 2)
    pc is 25m from router
    ps3 is 30m from router
(both distances include running along skirting boards, around door frames etc)
Anyway I have opted for the 30m cable as it means I don't have to relocate anything.

    Thanks

On the subject of crossover, there are two "types" of Ethernet port, MDI and MDI-X. There is no physical difference between them, just how they are wired internally. MDI ports are found on computers, printers, ps3s and so on, while MDI-X are found on routers, hubs, Ethernet switches etc.

Traditionally, you needed a straight cable to connect MDI to MDI-X (e.g. computer to router), and a crossover cable to connect MDI to MDI or MDI-X to MDI-X (e.g. two computers directly connected together).

However, most modern Ethernet routers/switches have "Auto MDI/MDI-X" ports, which detect whether they are being used as MDI or MDI-X and automatically switch between the two modes. This means that in many cases a straight cable and a crossover cable will work equally well.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
