My experience of A&L backs up the original post here. The call centres for A&L have no feel to want to help - they just don't get it? they give the impression that they will tell you anything to get you off the phone even if it means saying I cannot help you - more like will not help you !!
I have just moved house and wrote to them telling them my new address.
I got a letter saying ring an 0870 number (of course), so I rang them and they told me to goto a branch to deal with it.
I went to a branch today (Poole) and they were very reluctant to deal with my address change, they told me to ring the call centre.
Talk about pass the parcel:mad:
They said it was due to security why they needed to take it further but it is getting ridiculous for the genuine people. An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.0 -
Actually, perhaps I was a little harsh on the A & L in my OP.
Over the past few months I have dealt with a number of financial institution - all with the intention of depositing money with them.
A & L
Nationwide BS
Chelsea BS
Stroud & Swindon BS
First Direct
Not one of these transactions was completed without some sort of ****-up, usually in the form of being given wrong information. Several of the accounts I was interested in could only be opened by visiting a branch. On one visit there were no other customers in the office, the member of staff I spoke to to said she couldn't deal with it and asked another (sitting in the back of the office) to deal with it - her reply, "I'm at lunch" , it was 3.30 in the afternoon - I walked out ! (S & S BS)
On another occasion I made a special trip to Bristol to open an account, after being told I could do this "over the counter" (this was done specifically to avoid sending a large value cheque though the post at Christmas). Ten days later it all came back to me in the post saying I had to submit it by post ! (Chelsea BS)
They say it is becoming very difficult to get a mortgage at the moment. I am not surprised, it would be a lot easier if the Banks and Building Societies gave the impression that they actually wanted you to deposit your money with them !0 -

I did try that, but was so high up if I had rolled out of bed I would have needed a parachute :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
I got locked out of online banking on A+L for giving the wrong security details too many times.
They've recently changed everyone's customer ID to a shorter one. I tried to login again using my old customer ID and it let me in!0
