RAM and latency

I have a question about latency...
7dayshop.com says
Total Size: 1GB
Type: DDR2 SDRAM
Form Factor: DIMM 200-pin
Memory Speed: 667Mhz (PC2-5300)
CAS Latency:555-12
Unbuffered
Non ECC
1.8v (+/- 0.1v)
£10.50 x 2 = £21
and crucial says
Module Size: 2GB kit (1GBx2)
Package: 200-pin SODIMM
Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300
Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 •
CL=5
Unbuffered
NON-ECC
DDR2-667
1.8V
128Meg x 64CL — CAS (column address strobe) latency, which is the number of clock cycles it takes before data starts to flow after a command is received. Lower CL is faster. Modules with different CL can be mixed on a system, but the system will only run at the highest (slowest) CL.
£28
is this reall cl=5 and the 7dayshop cl=555? or is the crucial really 500?
which is better, does the difference in latency make much difference?
which one would you buy?
Thanks

The 7dayshop is giving you three figures...CAS, tRAS and tRC. There is no CAS of 500 as this means it'd take half a second before you could read the memory which would be ridiculous.
I'd buy the Crucial simply because it's guaranteed to be compatible (subject to using memory selector tool) and has a lifetime guarantee.0 -
Isn't a SODIMM for a laptop?0
-
yes, ive got a dell inspiron 1501.
So you would go for the crucial.
cant i tell if its compatible by the types?
I have used the crucial tool and the one above is the correct one.
is the 7dayshop not the same ram?0 -
Yes, the 7dayshop one is a SODIMM - they just don't describe it properly.
Both will probably work fine, but if you're risk-averse, I'd go with the Crucial one. I've had problems with laptop memory before (ironically with memory supplied by Crucial), and would therefore value their money-back guarantee.0 -
Crucia have a more than excellent reputation as suppliers of memory .

The 7dayshop stuff is generic so there's no guarantee that it will work. Also it'll only have a 12 month warranty.0 -
'generic' what do you mean?
'Only a 12 month waranty'
Thats ok, wont we be using 5gb sticks in 12 months?0 -
Hi,
I recently bought a 1gb stick of 400mhz Pc 3200, this was the ram I had in my computer, I originally had a 256mgb and 500mgb stick, I have put in the 1gb with the 500mgb and the computer shows the full 1.5gb ram.
The problem I have is every two, three or fours hours, the computer suddenly restarts ? never had this before, so obviously thinking it is the Ram, is there anyway I can check what is happening or why the ram may be conflicting ? the ram was recently bought from 7 day shop ?
Thanks0 -
Download a copy of Memtest and use that to test your memory. It will tell you if there is a problem with it.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
