Abbey - Terrible Story

Hi All
I have a tale to tell about Abbey and I wonder if any of this has happened to anybody else.
In October last year, I applied for a current account with Abbey online. They had major computer and software problems and decisions were taking six weeks. In December, I finally found that I had been declined but offered a basic account. I just had to phone.
I phoned and accepted and was asked some questions about how much I would open the account with and how much would go in each month.
The lady I spoke to on the phone entered the application in the wrong section and it was never entered. I found out in January and was told that it could now be resolved and that I had been accepted and would receive a pack.
This pack never arrived and by March having heard nothing was told to go into a branch. I went in and was met by a nasty manager who told me that I should never had come in. I was told to speak to an adviser who would help me. She applied for the account again and told me that I would receive everything in the post.
I never received anything except for a letter telling me to appeal against the decline decision for a credit card. I had never applied for a credit card and it seems the adviser did it at the branch without my knowledge.
I have complained and received no response, so have written to the chairman.
Has anybody else had major problems with Abbey

If you had done a search on Abbey or as we call them on here Shabbey - you would have found you are not alone.
Consider yourself fortunate that you did not manage to open account!0 -
Abbey 'lost' our savings account. We had a passbook only account savings account when we were saving for our house deposit, which we duly took to the bank to withdraw £12,000 for the deposit, except, somehow, £12,000 wasn't there anymore, despite all the money having been paid in.
It transpired to be another one of Abbey's famous glitches and resolved fairly swiftly but it scared the living daylights out of us.
We moved the left over money out of Abbey pretty much soon afterward, we went to withdraw and the woman interrogated us and made us see a manager before she gave us our money.
Would never use or recommend them, apparently with the basic account you cannot get money out over the counter only via the cash machine but I don't know if this is still the case?£2 Coin Savers Club (Christmas)- £86£1 Jar (Christmas)- £29Christmas Vouchers Saved: £1450 -
I dont even know how stongly to express this but I will never ever know how a company like Abbey are still operating. Nationwide polls have put them bottom of the tables numerous times and the experiences I have had with them from mistakes that are literally laughable!! Utter comedy.
I have tried to stay far away from them and have had not a single problem since with Lloyds, Halifax.
Thank god theres options.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"0 -
I've been trying to open an Abbey e-saver account for some weeks now. We completed everything online, but haven't heard anything.
At the other end of the scale is Northern Rock who give you the account number at the end of the online process, the account is ready immediately and allow everything to be done online, even the registration for gross interest and changing of the nominated account for withdrawals.
Despite their other failings the savings service is excellent.0 -
I had MAJOR probs with them-I found out that I had a savings account that was opened when I was a baby-I am much older now and it was only when they declined me for a current account (as I was going to get a job with them until I realised that it wasn't for me) and I was told about this account. I only got back in touch with my day a short time ago as he left when I was 1 and I haven't really been close to my mum for many years so my grandparents have practically raised me. Apparently, the man in the branch told me that he couldn't give me and account and asked me rarther bluntly did I have any adverse credit. i said 'excuse me'? I work for another Bank, I have never missed a payment in my life, never had a bank charge and I have never abused any financial facility I hold. I pay balances off in full and on time and that I am on the electoral register at my new house, and in my previous addresses for the last 4 years.
So then with very little explanation, all I was told, was that in 1992, mail had be returned to my address (that I lived at until I was 7) and that they have not heard from me since (excuse me but how many 7 year olds do you know run their own finances)-so as you can imagine I was laughing out of sheer disbelief...I had ID and they changed my address for me but to be honest I just want to close my account (or whatever it is you call it) because it's absolutely riduculous.
So I haven't had a very good experience to be honest and I am still waiting for details of the account to be honest. There is a record of their search on my credit file, but what annoys me, is that they have taken my new information (where I have been living for the last 4 years which is god's honest truth and I have statements to prove it) and then they let me go ahead with the application, knowing from the identification I provided that the same customer was sat in front of them and they have an account that says i've been living somewhere for the last 20 years.....very complicated and very annoying!!!
So that was my experience! Each person to their own bank I supppose!Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!
As D'Ream would sing 'Things.....can only get better'!!!0
