HELP..cannot find server or DNS error message

I have being trying to sort this out for the last 10 days or so.

When i try to access certain secure websites such as on line banking i keep getting the above message. After speaking with AOL customer support literally for hours now, i still have the same problem. Other websites allow to go so far and then i get the same message.

This also happens when accessing the same sites through internet explorer. I have made all the changes possible by resetting my computer ie security settings, browser settings, deleting temp files, checking the LAN settings etc,but i can't resolve the problem. I have removed & reinstalled both IE 6 & AOL software but it's made no difference.

I am running windows XP and have downloaded a couple of programs but it's made no difference.

I'm not very technical minded unfortunately but I have literally spent hours trying to solve this and apart from a sledge hammer I don't know what else to do.

If anyone can suggest any other options ( In simple terms) i would be really grateful:j

I found I had the same problem when I changed my MTU setting to 1500.
You say your using IE6 so have you tried updating to IE7 and doing Microsoft updates?

If you're using a router on AOL, the MTU setting MUST be set to 1400 otherwise you'll get the issues you are.

If changing the MTU size doesn't sort the problem (although it probably will as its a common AOL problem) can you post a more detailed error message please.

Also, if its not working in IE then try downloading Firefox or Apple Safari just to test it. IE is the source of a lot of browsing problems.

    Good luck
