Halifax; Pay attention. My OH is not making fraudulant payments!!

Grrrr!! I understand Halifaxs, and other banks, need to protect their customers, but there is a line between protecting customers, and not listening to customers!

My OH is currently on a family holiday in Canada for three weeks. (Home is 5 days. Yippee!) But we have nothing but trouble over halifax for this!!

He took his Halifax credit card with him as they had offered him a deal on withdrawing abroad. However, after making his first withdrawl on the first night he was there, card was stopped. Fair enough, we've suddenly made a leap across an ocean and payments are being taken from another country. OH rang bank to find out why the card was stopped, explained the situation and card was released again.

He goes to pay for some things on a shopping trip, and halways through card starts to be refused again. Same excuse - Money being wothdrawn from another continent. But by now, Halifax knew he was abroad and knew his return dates. Card was unlocked again.

Spoke to him again today to discover that once more, card was stopped!! Same reason, and the card will be unlocked by tomorrow morning local time.

Now, this is all fair and good, and I would expect the card to be blocked if it was used suddenly abroad. But to be told twice that OH was in that country and was removing money and will be back on the 14th April, and still to block the card is getting a little frustrating!!:mad:

I know it doesnt help but what i would have done is told them that i was going away and to be aware there would be some transactions made in canada

We've realised that now, but having told them twice since the first time that the card was stopped that OH is currently in canada, in Toronto, and transactions both from ATMs and in-stores would be made up to and including the 14th April, and still having it barred twice, I get the feeling it wouldn't make a great deal of difference.

Did you call or your partner?
If you called on your partners behalf (if you arent a joint holder) thats why they havent listened to you in case you are in on the 'fraud'.
If he rang then I guess they are just protecting their money cos if it was a fraud you would get your money back but the bank carry the loss - hence why loans o/ds go up.
Personally I would prefer my bank to ring me every time I bought a loaf of bread on my card then to find out one day all my savings had been swiped.
Im guessing if they didnt ring your partner and send his cash fraudulently all over the world without batting an eyelid, you would be a million times more annoyed???

There is a system in banks where you can call to inform them of your holiday dates, likewise with large purchases or unusual activity. I havent had a problem using this before with barclays (the numbers 01604 254689 for debit and credit cards) but I dont know about other banks.

My partner is in the Navy and subsequently uses his card all over the world and the staff there can see his employer is Royal Navy and can see the reasoning behind otherwise suspicious activity
