iDisgusted with Insurance company!

I have a world wide multi trip policy for my partner & I and I have never made a claim for many years.
Whilst staying alone in a hotel recently I left an item in the room worth about £300, I didn't miss it for two days, I then rang the hotel who told me that nothing had been handed in by the cleaner. My case was not opened from leaving the hotel until I arrived home, I actually visited the same hotel a few days later and asked the Manager to check the lost property book and again, nothing.
My new policy with Churchill home insurance turned out not to include items lost away from home so I decided to claim on my multi trip policy.
When i rang the claims line, they told me that I must have stayed away for a minumum of two nights to claim!
As usual, this is lost in the small print, surely a policy of this sort should cover me whether I am staying away or not?
Can anyone offer any advice, please?
Regards

Yes. You aren't covered.
Travel insurance almost always has this clause.
If you wanted to be covered for every single trip away from home, including overnight, you should have had "all risks" cover on your household policy. As you've already pointed out, you omitted to take out that cover.
I'm sure you don't need it pointing out that it's not wise to leave valuables in a hotel room, unless locked in the safe provided in the room or at the reception desk.0 -
I'm not sure why you're 'disgusted' :confused.
Both insurers would have sent you documents including T&Cs. Travel insurance in particular is a minefield, so T&Cs should be thoroughly checked.
So if you are 'disgusted', is it not with yourself?

Tinkerbelle, As you appear to be an expert on insurance policies, could you tell me if I could claim , for example, whilst on holiday, if left an item on a bus
No doubt it would depend on the T& Cs of each company, but in general, what do you think?Filiss0 -

I'm not an expert, but I know how important it is to understand what I'm paying for
I would say probably not, as the company would argue that you hadn't taken proper care of it by leaving it behind (just as a car insurer might not pay out if your car were stolen while you left it running on the drive).0 -
So if someone picked my pocket and stole my cash?Filiss0
