Rotten roofing felt

I have been told my roofing felt needs replacing as there are water stains on my soffets. Fortunatelty this is off a balcony leading from the bedrooms and I have therefore been able to inspect it easily. I have lifted the tiles and seen a hole in the roofing felt and also noticed that none of the felt is sitting in the guttering. I believe the felt should overlap into the guttering to prevent water being blown back up the roof.
Defective guttering has rotted the felt. The guttering has been replaced and I now need to replace the first layer of felt.
IS this easy to do???
And how do you go about it?? I had a quote of £1000 to remove the first 4 lines of tiles and replace the sheet of felt. Thought this sounded expensive as was told it would only take a day and only 1 roll of felt was required.
Anyone know exactly what to do as want to do it myself.

Hello Steve
I had some problems with the tiles on my roof so I contacted a local roofing merchants. They recommended a reputable contractor and I ended up paying almost half of the original quote! Look at www.rightwayroofingsupplies.co.uk. I know they have a few branches, and they may have one local to you. Give them a call, they may be able to help!
