earthing objects

I have an object, which needs to be connected to a metal wire which goes into the earth. If the object were on top of my immersion heater or one of the copper water pipes, would it be earthed? I have one connected to the back of my pc.

I don't have any radiators.

wire it up to an unfused plug, plug it in! Got me confused here though, what's on the back of your pc that needs earthing? All the copper pipes in your house should lead to earth, i think.

Yes, you can earth your system via your cold water pipes, make sure that you have a good connection, use a jubilee clip for the pipe and solder or crimp the earth cable on to it, it is best to use a seperate earth other than the water/heating system, you can buy a copper earth steak and bray it into the soft ground in your garden and connect it that way, there are different ways of doing this but make sure you keep it safe.

Don't take this as a certainty, because many properties now have plastic piping supplying the water.
In the "old" days the earth ran along the pipe and into the damp soil outside, now with plastic pipe this can no longer happen.

As PROLIANT says , use a separate earth.

I think you meant to say stake and bury ;)

DO NOT just drive any metal stake into the ground, there could be buried cables or other services, resulting in expensive bills or death.

You would not believe how often we have to repair our drainage or data ducting on site after the guys have been around and "installed" the earth rods for the lightning conductors.

And they are supposed to know where there are buried services.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Yes I did mean "Stake" and not the meaty type, mis-spell well spotted.

Aaaargh, tell us what it is you need it for! :D

I'm so puzzled! (and nosey...) ;)

They help remove the harmful energies in our environment, but nothing to do with electronics, created by people familiar with natural energies.

People know phone masts, if you can call them that, are there but see http://images.google.co.uk & type in harrp & then tetra. harrp transmitters are everywhere too - even in the sea & in space.

Earthing won't do anything to affect anything transmitted in the EM spectrum unless it's a current in direct connection with it. (Excepting earthed lightning rods that emit ions into the atmosphere). You were the one that made that nonsensical statement about "negative magnetic energy" in microwave ovens if I remember correctly (new age misinforming pseudoscience is the politest way I can describe it). I knew I recognised the name and also wondered why this thread was such a weird request.

If you're really bothered about such things you need to turn your house into a Faraday cage, nothing else will make the slightest difference in physical reality.

I have a large roll of mesh in my back garden going cheap if anyone wants it, I am sure it will suffice as a faraday cage, however you may find your wifi and mobile phone will not work as well anymore especially as the holes in the mesh are smaller than the actual radio waves trying to pass through them.
