Macbook air

I want one.... don't want to discuss the pro's and con's, just want to now how to buy one without breaking the bank!

I have tried the cashback websites, looking for discount vouchers and not had much luck.

I have looked on ebay, and people seem to be selling them at about a 3rd off the retail price. How can they do that? I know some of the adds may be a little suspect, so if I do decide on the ebay route I will insist on collection, anybody else think of what else to look out for??

Thanks
Elliot

If you know a student or someone in the armed forces or NHS, they should be able to buy at a discount. However, I'd be sceptical about 30% discount. Probably a "grey import" on which VAT and duty has not been paid.

Apple also have a refurb store inside their UK webstore, linked to at the lower right end of the page. May not be too many refurbed MBA's in there yet though. Fact is Apple is hard to get cheap, and the MBA is a new and desirable item, making it worse. Best I could do when my dad wanted a MB was to get the middle one from PC World (don't laugh they were cheapest) and get the 2.5% Quidco discount (still waiting for it to track) and 1% credit card cashback. You seem to be well sussed on eBay, and know to be careful. I don't think I would risk it unless I was really sure of the seller, and his postage method/insurance.

Assuming you don't have friends or relatives in the USA (that would be the cheapest method) then:

I imagine the next cheapest way is to import one from the US, using a US to UK mailbox forwarding service to buy direct.

Second cheapest would be to buy from a reseller (probably from eBay) who imports and sells US stock. But be very wary, and check feedback and liaise with sellers first. If it looks too good to be true, then it is.

Third cheapest, get someone in education (student or teacher) to buy from the education area of the Apple website.

Or... fly out on a cheap ticket and buy one from Boston. ;)

Do you have anyone in your family who works for a large company (e.g. BT) who have an employee purchase programme with Apple? My own company do and I get 6% on Apple laptops and systems. The T's & C's of the EPP allow people to purchase items for the benefit of their family.
