I get DLA mob low and care high, and I have just moved into a (council rented) flat living by myself. Today I got sent a letter from the DWP saying I don't qualify for it.

Are you already getting Income Support? silly question maybe but I can't see why not if you're on IS and don't have any other income coming in? the letter from DWP should have the calculation breakdown on there ie what your applicable amount is v's your income"I always pass on good advice. That's the weird thing. My mum claimed (and still claims) carer's allowance for me. I used to live with her. But when I moved out she phoned up the DWP to cancel her carers allowance and they told her to "not be silly" and still to keep getting it.
I have IS, DLA and I also do "permitted" work which shouldn't affect any of my benefits or so the job centre told me.0 -
I believe that if someone is recieving carers allowance for you you are not entitled to the severe disability premium, i'll scout around and see if i can get a source for that.
ETA it's mentioned here: http://www.hertsdirect.org/caresupport/bnftsadvc/benatoz/sevdis0 -
Yes this is why then, it doesn't matter if you live with your carer or not, as long as somebody claims it for looking after you, you won't get the premium. Your mum doesn't have to keep getting Carers Allowance if you/she doesn't want to!"I always pass on good advice. It is the only thing to do with it. It is never of any use to oneself" -Oscar Wilde0

If your mother isn't looking after you now, why does she still claim the carer's allowance? I think it's strange that the DWP told her not to be silly and to keep it. Doesn't sound like the usual advice from them." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Does your mum claim anything else apart from Carer's Allowance?0
