Multi-leg flights to the US

I'm going to the US in August (prime school holidays!).
I'm flying into Boston on the 8th August, and flying back from Las Vegas on the 28th. (We're driving in between).
What's the best way of going about getting multi-leg flights. I've tried all the screenscrapers and the individual websites. Does this mean I've exhausted all the possibilities?!?
So far my cheapest is £589.39 with Northwest (through Travelocity), which involves 1 stop in each direction.
How can I get a better deal?

maybe...
you don't say where you're travelling from though..i'll assume London..
now, the thing with flights, is that single trips are expensive, they assume a return trip... i'm thinking it may be cheaper to book LON - BOS as a return, and then LAS - BOS as a single...
LON - BOS = £464 (Swiss, from London City)
LAS - BOS = £93 (Delta)
Total £557
prices for flights to BOS may go down... no guarantees though

Unless the airlines bring out a special offer (which is unlikely for these dates) scheduled airline prices don't go down. The later you leave it for scheduled flights, the more you are likely to pay as fares go in tiers and book the cheapest tier first.
This is actually a pretty good price you have found. We are flying to Albuquerque on the 7th August and our flights have cost us £688 each. Granted we could have got them a little cheaper if we didn't have to use Delta but not much to make a difference.0 -
The phrase you want is "open jaw". This means a ticket where you fly into one city and return from a different one.
And give Trailfinders a call before booking anything from a web site: they are good for anything that is slightly unusual, such as this.0 -

I disagree with this to some point, as airlines won't give out the cheapest prices right at the beginning when the fares go on sale... they let the business people book fares at the highest prices, as this creates them money
nearer to the time of the fare, say 6 - 3 months before the flight day, they release offers, on a regular basis some, and these are deep discounted bucket fares...
it is only april, looking to fly in august, so its 4 months in advance right now, personally, i would wait another month to 6 weeks and keep checking..
the cheapest price currently i can find is swiss flying from London City airport, this stand out like a sore thumb to be honest, as the cheapest flights are normally from Heathrow....
This is just my opinion...

oh, also, £688 is expensive for a flight to ALB, when i can get flights for £526, though not delta, but another skyteam partner, so you'd still get skymiles!!0 -

I'm not sure that's strictly true. Prices do sometimes seem to fluctuate and markymoo's advice about there being "sweet spots" at, for instance, 3 months from flight time hold true.
I fly to the Northeastern USA on average about once a month to visit my girlfriend and I'm constantly surprised at how low prices will suddenly materialise out of nowhere for a route that was twice the price the week before. If you are prepared to be extremely flexible about when you fly, and ready to pick up bargains as and when, you can get good deals any time.
As the saying goes, the price of cheap flights is eternal vigilance

it's the internal part of the flights that will probably go up and sometimes quite dramatically.
i've just checked with continental and you aren't paying much more for the itinerary you want with them against a lon-ewr return on those dates0
