Our inspiration is in the nature of the north

Lumene was originally named after the clear blue lake Lummenne in the municipality of Kuhmoinen in Finland. But it also resembles the Latin word lumen, meaning ‘light’, which augments and supports our story. Everything that comes under the Lumene brand (products, design, advertising and points of sale) is inspired by the Arctic natural environment and by the slogan The Secret of Nordic Nature.

Pharmaceutical industry heritage

The Lumene cosmetics range was founded in 1970 under the auspices of Orion, a Finnish pharmaceutical industry company, ensuring scientific innovation and modern efficiency. Lumene began exporting its products in the early 1980s and rapidly became popular in the Nordic countries. In 2001, Lumene introduced seed oils from Arctic berries, and became the first cosmetics company to launch the berry trend.
