NCB confused over what to do for car insurance
NEH
I have been driving for 1yr 9 months but unfortunately i had a parking accident two weeks after passing my test in 2006 so lost my NCB for that year. I took out a 10 month policy last year which is up for renewal next week.
My options are
a) take another 10 month policy to try and get NCB slightly quicker at a cost of around £410
or
b) [FONT="]As my fiance drives the car at weekends and i only now use the car 2-3 times during the week putting him as the main driver and me a named driver and earn no claims that way and get a cheaper policy for the time being as he has several years of NCB. I am presuming though that would mean transferring ownership to him as well, not sure how i would stand with that side of things.
I am also hoping to change the car in the next couple of months once it sells so that complicates matters as well....
Any suggestions as to which might be the better option to consider would be gratefully received.

If you change ownership your fiance can insure the car. If he doesn't make any claims he will get his ncb increased after a further full year.
You won't earn any "official" NCB as a named driver on his policy, though some insurers will give an introductory discount to named drivers who have claim free records.
Changing the car doesn't complicate the NCB situation. But changing owners may possibly have an affect on its value.0 -
Thanks think it might best to put it in his name, he has his own car as well but we cant keep to one car unfortunately because i only have an automatic licence.0

Why not sell the manual car, (and keep an automatic)?0

Being a named driver you won't earn any NCB in your name. Also the 1 year NCB you have now you will lose if it isn't used on a policy of your own for 2 years.
Also as you have had a previous claim and if your partner is able, I'd advise he protects his NCB because if you as named driver have an accident he will lose some NCB.
Not everyone thinks protecting NCB is worth it but we were glad of it when I had an accident in 06.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
We couldnt do with just one car, he needs his for work and if sometime in the future i can manage a part time job (i'm disabled so not sure if this'll happen or not yet) then i would need a car. His NCB is protected at the moment on his.
Hmm maybe it is better to stick with the ten month policy.0 -
He can only use his NCB on one car.
Unless you goto a company that will insure both of your cars with one lot of NCB.0 -
Thanks guys for all your replies will go with the ten month policy seems easier in the long run.... £410 isn't bad when you've only been driving for a short time at least my age counts for something, pays to be older!0
