There is no official time limit for them to collect money from your account. Just keep a balance in your account as they may take the money any day. Nothing in this world is free.0

I know exactly what you mean, it's frustrating! I hope banks can come up with real-time balance adjustment soon. You're fine if you have an agreed overdraft though.0 -
Visa Debit card transactions can debit your account upto 180 DAYS after the transaction took place. Not sure about other types of cards. Be aware of this as I know of at least one bank that recently debited a number of accounts roughly 3 months after the transactions took place.0

Hi Chongthecat
It was not LTSB by any chance, they took 3 transactions out of my Duo account the other day I made in February, not that I am complaining (that much), i owe the money and suppose I am getting extended credit. It is just I had thought I budgeted better than I really had.

Hi
The timeline is set by visa and if the amount has come of your balance but not on your statement yet you can call your bank and give them the exact amount and they can tell you the last date possible that the retailer can request the funds. Once this date passes they cant claim. Once the bank have the details it is usually a ten day window that they can take the funds. If the retailer hasnt sent the request through yet (although surprising as most are instant) then the bank will have no record of it on their system and will just honour it when and if it arrives. It seems odd that the amount hasnt already come of your balance in anticipation which would indicate that they do not use instantaneous card readers or chip and pin machines. Was it one of the very old paper slips you signed (some shops use these in dire emergencies)? Either that or the shop doesnt transmit it through bacs daily(which they may do to reduce their bank charges).0 -

Mikeyorks, this is not a contradiction as you seem to think... if you re read this you will see i am explaining two different scenarios - 1. if the money has been debited of OP's bank account and 2. if it hasn't.
The retailer have to claim from the bank within the ten days when the amount and details are received by the bank.
If however the retailer does not submit the information to the bank ie paper audit or not submitted via telephone line for, say, a month for whatever reason the ten days start from the request being received by the bank. If the ten days elapse and no verification is received by the bank the funds will sit earmarked waiting for the retailer but after the ten days the bank will take the earmark off the amount.
Of course the bank will honour any debit card request from a legitimate retailer with all the appropriate details even if it was 3 years later.
Both instances I describe are accurate here depending on the OP's circumstances which is why i listed both.0 -

I read it several times before I commented. I've read it again ..... and it's still confusing.
I'm well aware that if an authorised sum is not claimed in (Banks differ) around 7 working days .... then the Bank software gives up and returns the reserved sum back into the 'available' spend. But you clearly say in the midst of all thisOnce this date passes they cant claim. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
