Freehold question, a bit complicated

Well, yes. I'm sure we'd all rather be Queen of Hawaii, say. But it's a compliment. You know lots of stuff.

You tend to learn fast when it's your livelyhood at stake.
As you said DG there are some strange people out there get your £400 they deserve it for being so stupid, they have execised their right to manage and have then passed it on to an agent who is not only charging them a fee but probably scamming them every way they can.
Have you enquired about selling the freehold at all just enquireing as i would be interested to know what you may have been offered. If I owned the lease on a property I would jump at the cchance to won the freehold.0 -
Not sure where I said in my original post that the leaseholder did not *own* the property - I'm a bit confused about that.
What I was trying to say, perhaps not too clearly, was that the freeholder had rung us up and offered the freehold to us for £1000. He said that he has offered it to the other two leaseholders as well. Although, this would obviously have to have been done via his solicitors to be legal.
Anyway on this basis we instructed a solicitor to handle the situation for us, i.e. liaise with his solicitors to try and find out whether all offers had been made to other leaseholders and proceed with the purchase. The freeholders solicitors have been less than helpful, as they were when we trying to remortgage the flat last year (but that's another story).
In the meantime one of the flats has been sold, so therefore presumably an offer will have to be made to him as well for the freehold.
If he decides he wants to buy, presumably he will have to pay his share of the freeholder's costs.
I know we were never going to be millionnaires over this, but our solicitor had advised us that it would be a good deal to buy at £1000 and obviously you take your solicitor's advice, but the whole thing is turning into a bit of a saga.0 -
Absolutely at that price it would be great especially if they need to extend leases in the future.0
